Carshalton College is seeking an ambitious and experienced Deputy Head of School to help deliver an outstanding student experience, enabling learners to achieve their qualifications, progress successfully, and develop the skills needed for employment and lifelong learning.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and management across a range of curriculum areas, while contributing to the wider management and operational functions of the School and College. You will oversee the effective delivery of programmes, including recruitment, enrolment, retention and achievement, and work closely with the Head of School to support budgeting, performance and partnership management.

You will play a key role in shaping and developing a high-quality, responsive curriculum that meets the needs of learners, employers and funding bodies. This includes ensuring provision remains flexible and aligned to local and regional skills priorities, employment priorities and national policies.

The role will also lead on the monitoring and continuous improvement of quality standards and provision, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and awarding body expectations. As our Deputy Head of School, you will hold relevant professional qualifications as well as a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, DTLSS, DET etc) and an up-to-date record of professional development. You will have proven experience of effective teamwork, both as a leader and as part of a team with strong awareness of future developments that influence the curriculum, in particular the needs of the local and regional economy.

You will have in-depth knowledge of how to plan, budget, resource and monitor the curriculum, and have a thorough understanding of what makes for excellent evidence-based teaching, learning and assessment as well as how to monitor it effectively. You will have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of national standards, and what excellent curriculum provision and outcomes look like, and strive to set and achieve high professional standards in everything that you do.

Key responsibilities

Lead the co-ordination of International PACES exams.
Coordinating various tasks within the examinations cycle (diet), ensuring tasks are performed accurately as per standard operating procedures and agreed timelines, assigning tasks to administrators where appropriate.
Coordinate scanning and results processing for International and UK PACES exams.
Manage the scheduling of all international exams – liaising with Federation Leads and suppliers to set exam calendars for future diets – confirmation of timeslots and capacity.
Lead on completing SOPs and ensuring they are reviewed regularly and fully up to date.
Track, monitor and report on exams related income, overseeing monthly reconciliation and support with the annual setting of budgets.
Prepare various management information reports, for both internal and external meetings, as necessary.
Lead on processing reasonable adjustment requests for International and UK PACES exams.
Lead on project work to meet the needs of the business (including development of business systems/ processes) and deliver on initiatives identified in the business planning process.
Support examination managers in identifying and mitigating risks, as per the risk register.
Deputise for the Exams Managers as required.
Other: Some packing and shipping exam materials might be a part of your role.

The role

As Enrichment Coordinator, you’ll lead the planning and delivery of a diverse programme of high-profile events, activities, extracurricular clubs and projects across the College, aligned with key Support Service development plans and service standards. You’ll have experience coordinating high-quality activities, projects, workshops and large-scale events (e.g., Freshers’ Fair), as well as managing complex safeguarding cases, including risk assessment, decision-making and coordinating safety and support plans with internal and external partners such as Social Services and the Police.

Strong knowledge of safeguarding practices, data protection and the ability to conduct robust health and safety risk assessments is advantageous. The Counselling and Wellbeing Advisor plays a vital role in supporting and promoting student mental health across the College. Delivering individual and group counselling, workshops and drop-in services, you will work closely with Student Services to provide a holistic, student-centred approach to wellbeing.

In this role, you will deliver one-to-one counselling sessions and on occasion, be involved in group delivery, workshops and drop-in support focused on key wellbeing themes. You will maintain accurate and confidential records in line with professional and ethical standards, undertake risk assessments, and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies, you will ensure students receive the right support, while effectively managing a counselling caseload alongside administrative responsibilities and engaging in continuous professional development.

We are seeking a qualified professional with a minimum Level 4 Diploma or Foundation Degree in Counselling, supported by evidence of CPD, or a Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People (CYP). You will have at least 200 hours of counselling practice, including a minimum of 50 hours working with children and young people aged 4–18 if your core training is adult-focused. You will be a registered member of a recognised professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCPS, and have experience delivering both individual and group counselling sessions.

You will have experience working with clients presenting with complex and multiple mental health needs, ideally within educational settings or relevant environments such as CAMHS or NHS services. The Role
