Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and well-being of residents? We are seeking a dedicated Building Safety Manager to oversee 4 high-risk buildings, across our stock. As a Building Safety Manager, you will be pivotal in ensuring the safety and compliance of our buildings. Your role will involve supporting Watford Community Housing in fulfilling their safety and regulatory duties, thereby enhancing the well-being and security of our homes.
What’s the role?
As a Building Safety Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, particularly in high-rise buildings. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Safety Case Maintenance: Managing and maintaining the safety case for buildings over 18LM, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigating measures.
- Building Safety Management: Overseeing the safety of all buildings over 11LM, conducting regular inspections of high-rise buildings to assess fire safety measures, serving as the primary contact for all building safety issues and compliance.
- Resident Engagement: Providing essential fire safety information to residents and addressing any concerns they have about their homes, implementing / managing the businesses Resident Engagement Strategy (RES)
- Mandatory Reporting: Establishing and operating a mandatory occurrence reporting regime, reporting to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).
- Compliance: Conducting hazard assessments, developing safety cases, gathering Regulation 38 information for new builds, and liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
- Information Management: Review, update, and maintain information on buildings and occupants, ensuring our systems support ongoing safe management (Golden Thread).
- Reporting: Provide monthly safety and engagement reports to the Head of Asset and Sustainability, and quarterly updates to the Executive Management Team (EMT).
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an individual who thrives on responsibility and independence, enjoying the challenge of working autonomously and making key decisions that impact the safety and well-being of our residents. You will have undertaken this role previously, with strong experience in both fire and building safety roles.
Building strong relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders comes naturally to you, enabling you to drive forward initiatives that enhance building safety. You will need to be onsite regularly for inspections and assessments, but you will also have the flexibility to work remotely when focusing on reporting and strategic planning.
Essential:
- Proven experience in building safety management or a related field, with at least 3 years’ experience.
- NEBOSH fire safety (or equivalent)
- Building related degree or similar qualification/experience
- Evidence of Continuing professional development (CPD)
- Possess the capability to comprehend and implement fire and structural safety principles effectively, ensuring the safety of high-rise buildings and their occupants.
- Have a solid grasp of building safety and public health principles and technical standards, with the skill to coordinate and integrate this knowledge comprehensively.
- You will need to hold a UK driving licence with access to a suitable vehicle, with insurance cover for business use.
- You will need to maintain a satisfactory basic level DBS check.
Desirable:
- Experience is navigating the Building Safety Regulator Gateways.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and resident safety.
- Knowledge and experience of working in the housing sector.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel
